The lingering Ukraine crisis is another civil war within Europe which will hasten the European decline, a British expert has said. Martin Jacques, a former senior fellow of the Department of Politics and International Studies at Cambridge University, said that the source of the current Russia-Ukraine conflict is originated from the outdated Cold War mentality held by the United States in total disregard of the regional security. He also pointed out that by stirring up the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the U.S. can not only weaken Russia, but also enhance the dependence of Europe on the United States. The U.S. has put the whole Europe on the frontline of the confrontation with Russia.
