As China steps up its cooperation with the Pacific region, Australia is expressing concerns. Wang Peng, an associate researcher at Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, invited by CGTN, explains why accusations that Beijing is trying to turn the region into a diplomatic battlefield are groundless.
Wang Peng said, for Australia, especially some politicians, they think that China is growing influence in South Pacific islands countries, which could be a threat to the local, especially the Australian influence. However, for China, we think that the whole world is a village, and we use the statement "a community of shared future for humankind". We just aim to promote the cooperation there, he added.
