”President Xi Jinping’s concept of a `common future for humanity’ from its inception has been the most coherent analysis of global affairs,” said British expert John Ross in a recent interview with Xinhuanet.

He is currently a Senior Fellow at Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China.

In his eyes, this concept, particularly since President Xi’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2017, is now increasingly accepted internationally.

Its big impact lies in that “it integrates in a coherent way the different aspects of foreign policy, from economic foundations to precise relations between countries,” he explained.

On the economic front, Ross held that China’s foreign policies, including its support of globalization, the “win-win” concept as well as the concept of “building a community with a shared future for mankind”, directly build on its economic foundation.

He mentioned the reform and opening up policy, stressing that it is “integrally linked to the concept of `community with shared future for mankind’”.

On the relations between countries, Ross appreciated Xi’s words “one plus one can be greater than two”, believing that it refuted the claim that international relations are a “zero sum game”.

This is because the age when big economies could be self-contained has gone, he explained.

“The modern world is necessarily international in scope,” he added.

Saying that “diversity is not a disadvantage, something to be feared, but it contributes to human development,” Ross shared his insights into this concept, which pursues shared destiny of humanity, recognition of diversity, and equality of countries.
