The "Silk Road Economic Belt" initiative opens up great perspectives for the countries of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), said Kazakh Senate leader Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.

China offers the world such opportunities for trade and investment that cannot be provided by any other country, Tokayev told the Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency.

The "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st-Century Maritime Silk Road" are international trade and infrastructure projects proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013.

In an interview with the news agency on Wednesday, Tokayev said that China is actively developing its western regions, thus it is interested in strengthening trade and economic relations with Central Asian states and Russia.

Kazakhstan should take an active part in transit of goods between China and European countries, Tokayev said.

The EAEU is an economic union that groups Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
