Media representatives from 60 countries gathered at a forum in Beijing on Monday to discuss coverage of the Belt and Road regional trade and infrastructure network proposed by China.

The forum, organized by Communist Party of China (CPC) newspaper the People`s Daily, was also attended by senior officials including Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and three provincial party chiefs.

Wang called on the media to help promote the initiatives. "China insists on developing the Belt and Road under the principles of them being discussed together, built together and shared," he said.

Jose Antonio Vera, president of Agencia EFE, said the Spanish news agency will dedicate coverage to the initiatives in the knowledge that they will benefit the economy, tourism and people all over the world.

The Silk Road Economic Belt stretches northwest from China`s coast through Central Asia, the Middle East and on to Europe while the maritime Silk Road runs through the country`s south to Southeast Asia.

The initiatives will involve 4.4 billion people and an economic aggregate of 22 trillion U.S. dollars, said People`s Daily president Yang Zhenwu at the forum.
