The year 2024 marks the 10th anniversary since the idea of building Major-Country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics has been put forward. After 10 years of development, what are the major achievements of this idea and how has it been evolving? Our reporter You Yang has the details.

YOU YANG Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province "On November 28th, 2014, Chinese President Xi Jinping first put forward his new outlook on China's diplomacy when addressing the central foreign affairs meeting in Beijing. He said that China's diplomacy must befit its major country status."

And during the country's political season two years later, the idea of building Major-Country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics was written into the government work report, noting that China would hold the banner of peace, development and win-win cooperation, focusing on the overriding goal of peaceful development and national revitalization, upholding China's sovereignty, security and development interests.

PROF. WANG WEN Dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China "The core values of Major-Country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics are win-win cooperation, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect. And our final goal is to build a community with shared future for mankind. So we continue to achieve the goal by pushing forward a series of initiatives. These include the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and more."

In a recent pivotal meeting between President Xi and his US counterpart, Joe Biden, the Chinese leader reaffirmed Beijing's 4 unchanged stances on China-US relations: These include China's goal of a stable, healthy and sustainable China-U.S. relationship; and its commitment to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation for bilateral ties.

PROF. WANG WEN Dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China "This kind of Major-Country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics is totally different from some Western notions. In the West, some countries believe in seeking hegemony. Over the past 500 years, the ideas of Darwinism, the law of the jungle as well as zero-sum game have been existed in the Western civilization. And China put forward another form of modern civilization, which promotes win-win benefits."

Moreover, at this year's G20 Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined the country's eight actions for global development, with pursuing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, implementing the Global Development Initiative, and supporting development in Africa topping the agenda.

EINAR TANGEN Current Affairs Commentator "So today China has responsibility and this is also in line with the 8 actions that major countries should have this responsibility to come together especially the US and China as two leading powers."

In terms of conflicts, such as those between Russia and Ukraine, and Palestine and Israel, Beijing's stance has been consistent: which is promoting political settlement and resolving conflicts through talks and dialogues.

EINAR TANGEN Current Affairs Commentator "In the end, there can only be one way, well, two ways, you wipe everybody out and you're criminal, right? And you become a crime in the world in the history books, or it's going to be settled at the diplomatic table through negotiations. Somebody has to set the table and bring the parties together. That is a real commitment to peace."

YOU YANG Beijing "Experts say one of the key features of Major-Country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics is that under tremendous uncertainties, it provides hope for the international community, a sense of security and a path to prosperity. You Yang, CGTN, Beijing."
