On February 22, the Lanting Forum on "Promoting Dialogue and Cooperation and Managing Differences: Bringing China-U.S. Relations Back to the Right Track", jointly hosted by the China Public Diplomacy Association, Peking University and Renmin University of China, was successfully held. State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the opening ceremony of the forum and delivered a keynote speech. The Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China(RDCY) is one of the main organizers of this forum. Maurice R. Greenberg, Chairman of C.V. Starr & Co., Inc. and Starr Foundation, Founding Chairman and Former CEO of American International Group delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. The following is the full text of the speech.

Good Morning –

Thank you for inviting me to say a few words at this event.

To begin with there is no more important relationship in the world today than the U.S. China Relations. For one reason or another it has gotten off track, and both nations need to recognize that cooperation between our two countries is the best way to resolve any differences that exist.

Many U.S. companies are doing business in China which have benefited both countries. The Starr companies have been operating in China for over 100 years and I have been going to China for over 40 years.

China today is much different from when I first went there. For example, there was no insurance industry in China except for PICC, a tiny organization at that time. My own company helped them grow and understand something about the industry on a worldwide basis. We trained their people and today it is a major industry in China.

Our Organization also had a very significant investment portfolio in China for many years. It benefited start-up companies by the capital that we had contributed to many.

I hope that both nations can continue to benefit from each other. Not only in their national interest but benefit many others as well. It is in the national interest of both countries.
