A Dialogue Between Prof. Wu Xiaoqiu and Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul

China-U.S. Relations: A Brighter Future, What's the Path Forward?

The China-U.S. relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world. Recently, in a meeting with representatives of the U.S. business, strategic and academic communities, President Xi Jinping pointed out that "the relationship [between China and the U.S.] cannot go back to the old days, but it can embrace a brighter future" and that "promoting world economic recovery and settling international and regional issues require China and the United States to coordinate and cooperate with each other, and to think and act as major countries." This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. In order to better implement the common understandings between the two heads of states at the San Francisco meeting, and jointly promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY) once again invites Michael McFaul, former U.S. Ambassador to Russia and a professor at Stanford University, for a conversation with Wu Xiaoqiu, Dean of the National Institute of Finance and Director of the China-US People-to-People Exchange Research Center, Member of the Executive Board of RDCY at Renmin University of China. This will be a reunion between the two interlocutors following a July 2019 dialogue, a continued discussion on how to explore the right way for the two countries to get along, and promote the sustained, steady, and sound development of China-U.S. relations.
