Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 in 2020, the US government has initiated an unlimited quantitative easing policy. This led to the rapid rise of the Fed’s balance sheet size from nearly 4 trillion to 7 trillion U.S. dollars, and the scale of U.S. national public debt also rose from 23.2 trillion at the end of 2019 to 26.8 trillion U.S. dollars in October 2020. At the beginning of 2021, the US debt level is expected to be close to 30 trillion U.S. dollars. Three researchers from the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China (RDCY), Wang Wen, Jia Jinjing, and Cui Yizhe, published an article called the "U.S. ‘Financial Zombification’ and Its Evolutionary Trends" in the well-known academic journal Contemporary International Relations in September 2020, and proposed that the United States will under a heavy debt burden.
