What Are China's Goals in Cooperating with African Nations?

While the United States inaugurated the year 2026 by invading Venezuela, China started by touring African countries to consolidate economic and cultural cooperation along the Belt and Road Initiative. In this interview with Professor Wang Wen, Dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, Hussein Askary discusses the reasons why the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi is visiting Africa as a first trip abroad for the year. China-Africa relations are historical, but there is some scepticism about China’s real goals in the African continent. What makes China different, as a major power, from the British, French, or American empires? This and other questions are discussed in this video.
