“2017 Zhi-Xing China: China-U.S. University Student Leaders Academy” delegation visits RDCY

Seventeen-members of “2017 Zhi-Xing China: China-U.S. University Student Leaders Academy” delegation visited Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY) in the morning of July 28th, and take part in a lecture with the theme of “Global Governance Innovative Development & China-U.S. Young Leaders”.


The delegation is comprised of student leaders from top universities, such as Yale University, Princeton University, Tsinghua University, and Renmin University of China. Prof. Wang Wen, Executive Dean of RDCY gave an opening remark for the lecture. Dr. Chen Xiaochen, Director of International Research Department, RDCY and Dr. Cheng Cheng, Associate Research Fellow in RDCY, delivered a keynote speech separately and had a vigorous discussion with all delegates. The lecture is hosted by Liu Jianping, the Project Manager of the Research Cooperation Department of RDCY.


Executive Dean Prof. Wang Wen said, the future of Sino-US relation lies in the young generation, who will write the glorious page of the relationship between China and the United States. In history, there is no any peace for relationship between the existing and rising powers and it is normal that countries around the world have different views towards problems emerged. However, China and the United States are expected to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen cooperation on major international issues and solve common challenges faced by the two countries. Both China and the US are supposed to surmount conflicts and create a new model of international order. Therefore, students of both countries should deepen mutual trust and make their own contributions to promoting Sino-US cultural exchanges and youth communication and cooperation between the two countries.



Executive Dean Wang Wen delivered an opening speech


Director Chen Xiaochen addressed a speech entitled " Case Studies and Practical Solutions for the United States to Connect to ’the Belt and Road Initiative’". He introduce the five key areas to the students, namely policy communication, roads Unicom , the flow of trade, the circulation of money and the connection of the people; and the five major objectives, namely civilization Road, the road of innovation, the opening road, the road to prosperity, the road to peace. He took many examples such as the China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) and the General Electric Company (GE) Kipeto wind energy project of the Kenya group to point out that China-US economic and trade cooperation has complementary advantages and mutual benefit which can result in a win-win situation.


Associate research fellow Cheng Cheng delivered a speech focusing on" Young Professionals and Transformation of International Development”. He analyzed the boost of Chinese economy and the great contributions made by China to the growth of the world economy. He also introduced the worthy experience of China in infrastructure construction and the development financing field which can provide a reference for other developing countries. In addition, Cheng pointed out what could young people do to deepen the international communication and cooperation, jointly shoulder the social responsibility and play an important role in the international arena through several young people`s story, who contributed for the international friendly exchanges.


Chinese and American college students discussed actively and heatedly. They expressed that today`s event provided a valuable opportunity to learn "The Belt and Road", and deepen mutual understanding and strengthen mutual friendship.

“2017 Zhi-Xing China: China-U.S. University Student Leaders Academy” is a significant achievement of the seventh round of Sino-US cultural exchange mechanism, which is aimed to offer a platform for young Chinese and American student leaders to enhance the efficiency of in-depth exchanges and learn from each other, meanwhile, it promoted the youth student leaders to get a better understanding of each other`s country, society and culture, and it is conducive to strengthening Sino-US friendship.
