New book “the Origin of Currency” launching ceremony and seminar held in Beijing

On the morning of April 15, the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY) convened the release ceremony as well as the seminar of newly published book, the Origin of Currency, written by Zhou Luohua, associate dean of RDCY. Professor Wang Wen, executive dean of RDCY, delivered a guiding speech and Zhou Luohua made a keynote speech. This meeting was moderated by Dong Ximiao, associate dean of RDCY.


Professor Wang Wen spoke highly of this book, and regarded it as a multi-disciplinary masterpiece that involves knowledge from various subjects such as anthropology, history, economics, politics, physics, ethics and so on. It also makes a fresh explanation to basic concept of financing and banking, the origin of currency.



In his keynote speech, Zhou Luohua revealed that economists represented by Adam Smith who considered it inconvenient for ancient tribes to exchange article by article. Thus, currency is developed. However, evidence unearthed by scientists in aborigine of Australia shows that article-by-article exchange is actually the ritual of mass intercourse. Men and women exchange their gifts in order to attract attention of each other. They don’t feel a bit inconvenient without help of currency.


Zhou also took the example of rivalry among animals to prove that the country which enjoys currency stability can keep its price stable and national strength flourish forever. In this connection, the most essential benevolent measure is to keep price stable. He pointed that stability is more vital than success rate in fact from the perspective of trading strategy.



There are many relevant experts and scholars at present who made in-depth interaction with each other in the light of the development path of currency and future direction of mankind.
