Seminar held in Beijing to commemorate 40 years of China-US people-to-people exchange

On January 23, hosted by Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY) and China-US People to People Exchange Research Center, a seminar on “40 Years of China-US People to People Exchange: History, Experience and Challenges” and report release ceremony was held in Beijing.



More than 200 people attended the meeting including Experts and scholars from the Renmin University of China, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Normal University, China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), China Center for Contemporary World Studies of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and Ministry of Education of China, as well as the officials from the US Embassy in China, and representative from media.

Wu Xiaoqiu said that Sino-US relations are the most important relationship in the world, a cornerstone of China's diplomatic relations. The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States is of great significance to the world, He stressed that the global powers in the world should take balanced perspectives and consider the balanced development of the global economy. He hopes to promote the development of Sino-US relations through the work of China-US People-to-People Exchange Research Center.

Hu Zhengyue said that humanities exchanges have contributed greatly for the development of Sino-US relations. It has not only effectively enhanced mutual understanding, but also made a useful and irreplaceable contribution to pragmatic exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. He said that as the important driving force for Sino-US cultural exchanges, the think tanks and media of the two countries should maintain their strength and take responsibility, and continue to work hard to expand and deepen the breadth and depth of Sino-US cultural exchanges from different directions. We will jointly promote Sino-US relations based on coordination, cooperation and stability, and better serve the people of the two countries and the people of the world.

He said that the trade friction has cast a shadow over the bilateral economic development of China and the US, but the foundation of Sino-US humanities exchanges is still deep, and the prospects for humanities exchanges are still promising."

The China-US People to People Exchange Research Center of Renmin University of China was established in August 2017. It is one of the two China-US people to people exchange research centers established by the Ministry of Education in China. It is operated and managed by the RDCY. Since the establishment of the center, The RDCY has been investigating the United States for more than 20 times and hosted several high-level bilateral think tank dialogues on the “Belt and Road”, the South China Sea issue, the Sino-US trade dispute, and forums of China-US Universities Presidents China-US think tanks, attracting extensive attention from the international community.
