The 14th annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club was held on October 16-19 in Sochi, Russia, with the aim to analyze the transformation of socio-political worldviews and outline the contours of the future. This year the Valdai meeting brought together over 130 participants from 33 countries.
The general topic of the Valdai Club this year is Creative Destruction: Will a New World Order Emerge from the Current Conflicts?
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the members of the Valdai Club and took part in the final session of the Valdai Discussion Club’s 14th Annual Meeting, which this year took the theme The World of the Future: Moving Through Conflict to Cooperation.
During the four days of the forum, the participants are discussing political and social conflicts of the modern world and opportunities of society’s adaptation to the new factors and conditions. Through analysis of the current conflicts, experts and political scientists predict the shape of the future world.
Fu Ying, Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, attended the discussion of the first session on “The Conflict Between Differing Geopolitical Worldviews”.
Wang Wen, Executive Dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY), was invited to take part in the second session with the theme of “The Conflict Between Rich and Poor”.
The Valdai Discussion Club was established in 2004. It is named after Lake Valdai, where the Club’s first meeting took place. The Club aims to promote dialogue of Russian and international intellectual elites and to deliver independent objective scholarly analysis of political, economic, and social developments in Russia and the world.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with the participants of the Valdai Club’s annual meetings every year since its founding.
