2024 marks an very important year for China-Spain bilateral relations, after celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023, the two countries will usher in the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025. In early December, Renmin University of China (RUC) and Complutense University of Madrid jointly inaugurated the China-Spain Center on Civilizational Exchange and Cooperation, which is a practical measure to implement the consensus of the leaders of the two countries, and to cultivate the foundation of friendship through people-to-people exchanges. In view of this, the "Ambassador Forum" of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at RUC will honorably invite Marta Betanzos Roig, the first female ambassador of Spain to China, to visit Renmin University of China and deliver a keynote speech on 17 December 2024, exclusively interpreting the relationship and cooperation achievements between the two countries over more than 50 years.

Speaker's CV

Marta Betanzos Roig arrived in Beijing in February 2024, becoming the first female ambassador appointed by Spain to China. Betanzos, who officially launched her diplomatic career in October 1986, has held a number of important positions, including Spain's first ambassador to the Republic of Mali, Spain's permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and advisor to Spain's permanent representation to the United Nations. She also served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Spanish Embassy in Tripoli (Libya) and at the Spanish Embassy in China. At the European Union level, Betanzos has held several advisory and coordination positions related to migration matters, including Deputy Director General of the European Commission's internal department.
