Experts focus on COVID-19 and the rise and fall of great nations to discuss the path of high-quality development
2022 Global Governance Forum (Spring) with the theme of “What will the major powers do as COVID-19 ends?” was successfully held in Beijing on Feb 15, 2022. Many famous experts from the fields of politics, finance, disease control, and economics spoke about the impact of pandemic on global politics and the rise and fall of great powers, and how China's economy can achieve high-quality development in the post-pandemic era. The forum released the important report "Pandemic and the Rise and Fall of Great Nations".
Liu Yuanchun, vice president of Renmin University of China, delivered an online speech. He said that it has been two years since COVID-19 outbreak, and in these two years, the whole world's economic, social and political order has suffered a huge impact, which has also put us through a test that has never been seen in a century. An important spirit to be advocated by this forum is that we need more common and cooperative governance in the world to deal with the more complex and serious series of problems in the post-pandemic era.
Wang Wen, Executive Dean of RDCY, released a research report entitled "Pandemic and the Rise and Fall of Great Nations". The report reviews and compares the evolution of the knowledge of Infectious disease variables in international relations, summarizes the historical patterns of infectious diseases affecting the rise and fall of great powers, compares the types of infectious diseases affecting the rise and fall of great powers, and explores the transmission logic and historical patterns of infectious diseases as new variables in the rise and fall of great powers. The report emphasizes that we need to improve the governance system of global public health in the 21st century and strengthen solidarity and cooperation.
In the keynote speech, Li Junru, former Vice President of the Central Party School, Huang Haizhou, Managing Director of CICC, Wu Zunyou, Chief Epidemiologist of Chinese Center for Disease Control & Prevention, and Wen Yi, Distinguished Professor of Antai College of Economics & Management of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered their speeches.
Li Junru pointed out that the world is undergoing a great change unprecedented in a century, and the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is at a critical period, and early planning is needed for international engagement after the pandemic.
Huang Haizhou said that the current measures to stabilize growth are conducive to China's economy continuing to seize the strategic opportunity period, which is also the economic path to achieve the rise of a great nation.
Wu Zunyou focused on sharing the current development trend of COVID-19 and China's prevention and control strategy, and pointed out that although many people are optimistic that the pandemic will end within this year, we still need to maintain a cautious optimism about whether COVID-19 will end.
Wen Yi and the guests discussed his views on the social and international aspects of today's pandemic.
Qin Xuan, Dean of the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at Renmin University of China, gave the concluding speech.
The forum was hosted by RDCY and the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at Renmin University of China, organized by Global Governance Research Center at Renmin University of China(GGRC), and co-organized by Economics and Jufeng Financial Research Institute.
