RUC delegation visits India for universities and think tanks cooperation

On January 27-31,a delegation led by Du Peng, vice president of Renmin University of China (RUC), visited Mumbai and New Delhi in India. The delegation attended the second China-India Population Ageing Forum, and visited Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Somaiya Vidyavihar, Delhi University, and Jawaharlal Nehru University.



On the morning of January 28th, Professor Du attended the second China-India Population Ageing Forum held at the TISS and delivered a keynote speech.



In the afternoon, the delegation  met with Shalini Bharat, president of the TISS. President Sally Bharat introduced the development process and subjects setting of the Tiss. She said that TISS has been committed to research and teaching programmes in the fields such as social science, management and labour studies and rural developent. She hopes to strengthen research cooperation with the Renmin University of China in the future. President Du introduced the basic situation and academy advantages of RUC, and highlighted the think tank research cooperation, international exchanges, summer school and Silk Road School. He hopes that the two universities will cooperate in the fields of scholars' mutual visits, student exchanges, and joint meetings, and also welcome President Bharat to visit RUC and deliver academic lecture. Siva Raju, deputy dean of the Hyderabad Campus of the TISS, attended the meeting.



On January 29, Led by President Du Peng, the delegation visited Somaiya Vidyavihar, and met with the Provost V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai. The two sides introduced the development history, disciplinary characteristics and development in international exchanges respectively. President Du Peng hopes to promote collaboration and joint research between the two universities in the fields of business, religion and philosophy. Professor V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai expressed his willingness to strengthen contact with RUC in these areas and hopes to carry out specific cooperation with Renmin University on short-term student projects. Dr. Monica Khanna, Director of K.J.Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, and Satyendra Kr. Upadhyay, Director of International Relations, attended the meeting.



On the morning of January 30, the delegation visited Delhi University and met with the President Yogesh K Tyagi. Du Peng reviewed the history of the exchanges between the two universities and introduced the academic development of RUC, Suzhou Campus, Tongzhou New Campus, Silk Road School, and Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of RUC. He proposed that the two universities can strengthen the collaboration in the disciplines exchanges, scholars' mutual visits,  joint meetings, and short-term students' projects. President Yogesh K Tyagi said that mutual learning and academic sharing between Chinese and Indian universities are important. He invited scholars of RUC to visit Delhi University in the future and conducted a series of lectures.


The delegation visited the Department of East Asian Studies and library of the department at University of Delhi.



On the afternoon of January 30, the delegation visited Nehru University and met with the Vice President Chintamani Mahapatra. Du Peng introduced the basic situation of RUC, Suzhou campus, Silk Road School, summer school and think tank research. He welcomes Vice President Chintamani Mahapatra and other scholars from Nehru University to give lectures at the RUC and hopes to carry out substantive cooperation in short-term student projects, scholars' mutual visits, and joint research. Vice President Chintamani Mahapatra introduced the academic achievements of Nehru University in international relations research and the experience in short-term student projects, and expressed his willingness to strengthen collaboration with RUC in the above aspects. Sharad K Soni, Director of the International Collaboration, attended the meeting.


Members of the delegation also included Dr. Wo Xiaojing, deputy director of the HR Office for Senior Personnel of RUC, Dr. Lyu Jie, Deputy Dean of The Silk Road School, Yang Yuntao, senior editor of the Information Center of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, and Lu Wenqin, Liaison for Asian Universities at International Office, .
