In the afternoon of July 23, 2020, Afghanistan Ambassador Javid Ahmad Qaem and two other embassy staff visited Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY), during which they exchanged views on relation and cooperation between China and Afghanistan, people to people exchanges and think tank communication, Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation with Wang Wen, the Executive Dean of RDCY and Zhou Rong, Senior fellow of RDCY.

Ambassador Javid Ahmad Qaem spoke highly of RDCY’s development in recent years and its research results in the fields of global economic governance BRI etc. He said that China's BRI is in line with Afghanistan’s development vision. Afghanistan has its unique geographic and rich resource advantages and China is an important trading partner of Afghanistan. As a country along the BRI route, Afghanistan hopes that the two nations can further enhance mutual understanding and cooperation for the benefit of both peoples. He sincerely expressed his expectation that future exchanges with RDCY will be strengthened in researching, educational and cultural areas to promote practical cooperation between China and Afghanistan in more fields.

Wang Wen, Executive Dean of RDCY said China is facing challenges such as pressure from the United States, the COVID-19 pandemic etc. Some Western media frequently discredit China, but China is using its own practical actions to show that it is a self-confident and responsible great power, reflecting the "new global power" featured by "not easy to fight, good at learning". The BRI is a long-term global initiative that is open and inclusive, and Sino-Afghan cooperation holds great potential and opportunities, and we look forward to more cooperation between China and Afghanistan on the BRI and people to people exchanges in the future.

Zhou Rong, Senior fellow of RDCY said that China and Afghanistan have a long history of traditional friendship, which has continued to develop despite difficult conditions, and the prospects between the two countries are promising. Facing the severe test of the COVID-19 epidemic, China and Afghanistan have always worked together to cope with the situation, and mutual political, economic and humanitarian support from all sides has deepened and sublimated Sino-Afghan relations.

Second secretary Mahdi Munadi, Ambassador assistant Sohpia from the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Beijing, and Assistant Dean Yang Qingqing, Research fellow Cui Zhenhai and Deputy Manager of International Project Wu Yinxuan from RDCY were also involved in the talks.
