Swiss Ambassador Jean-Jacques de Dardel will deliver a Speech at Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China (RDCY) on September 21. In April 2016, Switzerland and China established their “Innovative Strategic Partnership”, the first of its kind. In the discourse, he will analyze how this pioneering spirit of the bilateral relations can be transformed into an asset for the “Belt and Road Initiative”.

Dr. Jean-Jacques de Dardel is Switzerland’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia and the DPRK, leading his country’s largest Embassy in the world and overseeing the activities of four Consulates General and two Cooperation Offices. Before his current assignment to Beijing, he served as Ambassador to the French Republic, the Principality of Monaco, UNESCO and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) between 2011-2014. From 2007-2011, Dr. de Dardel served as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of the Swiss Mission to NATO. He was the Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Central Asia, the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from 2004-2007. Between 2000-2004, he founded and directed the Center for International Security Policy at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and was Head of the Euro-Atlantic Security Section. During his first tour of duty in Paris between 1996-2000, he served as Minister for Cultural Affairs, then as Ambassador and Personal Representative of the Swiss President to the Permanent Council of the Francophonie (CPF). Dr. de Dardel’s 35-year career in the Swiss Diplomatic Service has also included postings to Canberra (Deputy Chief of Mission), Washington (Political and Media Counselor) and Vienna (Attaché). Earlier in his career, he was the Swiss President’s foreign policy speechwriter. Prior to joining the FDFA, he served the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as Secretary-Jurist at the International Conference for the Development of International Law.
