Jesús Seade, Ambassador of Mexico to China

Mexico-China Cooperation:Towards the Next 500 Years 


Mexico and China, two nations of ancient civilizations, have had enduring exchanges and friendly relations throughout the last centuries, which have set the chart of course of their today´s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two countries have established diplomatic relations in 1972, Mexico has now become China's sole comprehensive strategic partner in North America, while China stands as Mexico's second-largest trading partner, second-largest source of imports, and third-largest export destination. Amid the restructuring of global industrial chains, these two ancient civilizations are forging Latin American vitality with wisdom from both sides. In view of this, the “Ambassador Forum” of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin Universtiy of China (RDCY) will honorably invite Jesús Seade, Ambassador of Mexico to China, to visit Renmin University of China and deliver a speech on May 21, 2025, interpreting potential opportunities for China-Mexico cooperation and envisioning a shared future of the two sides.

Speaker's CV :

Jesús Seade has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the People's Republic of China since 2021. From 2018 to 2020, he was appointed as Under-Secretary for North- America with Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2018, he represented the president-elect of Mexico in the negotiations of the new USMCA trade agreement between Mexico, the USA and Canada (successor to NAFTA) which was successfully concluded. From 1989 to 1993, he served as the Ambassador of Mexico to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, where he led Mexico's participation in negotiations that created the World Trade Organization (WTO), and then acted as founding Deputy Director-General of the WTO. In November 2020, Ambassador Seade received from President Lopez-Obrador the Miguel Hidalgo Order in the Degree of Band, highest honour the Mexican Government can bestow on a Mexican national. He also used to take the positions of Vice President of two Hong Kong universities from 2007 to 2017.
