Prof. Liu Yuanchun was born in Sichuan province in 1972.

In 1989, Prof. LIU started his career in academia in the School of Economics at Renmin University of China (RUC) where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 1993, Master’s degree in 1996 and Doctorate in 1999. Since then, he has been dedicated to teaching at RUC first as a lecturer, later associate professor, and then as full professor and PhD supervisor. From January 2006 to December 2013, he served as deputy Dean of the School of Economics. In December 2013，he served as Director of the Scientific Research Office. In November 2016, LIU Yuanchun took office as the Vice President of RUC. He was selected as distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program, distinguished expert of the State Council, young and middle-aged expert with remarkable contribution as part of the National Key Talent Program, and as member of the New Century Excellent Talents Program. He works as Executive Dean of the National Development and Strategy Academy of RUC which is a top national think tank and Executive Deputy Director of the Institute of Economic Research at RUC. Prof. LIU also holds posts in other institutions including as a member of the National Educational Advisory Committee of the Master of International Business Program, expert reviewer of the National Social Science Foundation projects, expert reviewer of the China Scholarship Council of Ministry of Education, council member of the International Economic Association, council member of the Institute of International Finance, member of the Sichuan Advisory Committee for Policy Decision, and member of the Advisory Committee for Ministry of Industry and information Technology.

With Macroeconomics and World Economics as his main research areas, Prof. LIU has won dozens of awards including the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, First Prize of Beijing Outstanding Achievement in Philosophy and Social Sciences Research, The  Fok Ying Tung Foundation Award for Excellent Young Scholars, Wu Yuzhang Best Humanities and Social Sciences Research Award, the Ministry of Education’s Excellent Award in Scientific Research in Higher Institution, as well as the National “Three One Hundreds” Publication Award. In addition, he was selected for the “Outstanding Talent of the New Century Program,” the “Century Talent Cultivation Program” in humanities and social sciences, and was awarded as Beijing Pioneer of Education for Innovation in Science and Technology. Prof. LIU has authored over 10 books and over 200 papers published in influential domestic and international academic journals, including Social Sciences in China and Sociological Studies. Prof. LIU attends expert symposiums of national economic situations on a regular basis, including 3 symposiums with the Premier. He serves as an expert adviser in finance and economics for the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, the Policy Research Office of the State Council, the National Monetary Policy Commission, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and other national institutions as well as many TV channels and media including CCTV and Phoenix. Prof. LIU also works as an anonymous referee for a number of influential Journals, including the Economic Research Journal, the Journal of World Economy among others.
